Suttons players had given a great account of themselves and were applauded off the pitch by not only their own travelling fans, the Boro fans as well as the ball boys and stewards also showed appreciation for their efforts. Luckily for Boro, Sutton would find their giant-killing weapons the following season by defeating the 1987 winners Coventry City.
